Rather than a "comp team" the SLDA Performance Company gives dancers a PURPOSE through serving others and a more professional feel so they are more prepared to enter the dance world after graduation.

-Perform monthly, age appropriate costumes, professional opportunities, featured dancers in an movie filmed in our area last August, DanceMoms national TV tapings, and OPENING FOR KIDZBOP national tour!!
In addition to lots of exciting events and benefits that give back to our community!

We are very different--find out today!

We are not a traditional "comp team".
We focus on performance opportunities that challenge us to give back to our communities, serve those in need,
and provide ourselves with professional experiences. We are artists above all else.

We also compete at 4-5 competitions annually, earning 1st place overalls,
Platinum awards, and special judges awards every year

What to expect for the 2017-2018 season--
Because we are a Performance Company and not just a comp team, dancers will be asked to perform at a variety of local events throughout the season as well as attend 4-5 regional/local dance competitions. Dates will be announced November 1st for comp weekends which always fall in the winter and early spring, January-May 2017.

Dancers are required to attend a weekly ballet class, a weekly jazz or lyrical class as well as a weekly technique/flexibility class. In addition, classes are then scheduled based on the routines they are selected to dance. Weekends are family times at SDLA, but we may have occasional rehearsals on a Saturday morning or Sunday evening, especially if your dancer wants to do a solo, duet, or trio for comp. Those will begin in November. We are ideally looking to have a 2-3 days per week dance schedule...depending on the number of routines you dancer dances. The minimum dance days per week is 2. (Wednesday night is a huge company rehearsal night with many classes). The minimum dance classes for performance company is 4. There is a cap for tuition and families get huge discounts for multiple dancers.

What does a competition cost to attend?--
Since we travel to local/regional comps only, this minimizes the need for over night stays. Most if not all of our comps are in Youngstown, Boardman, or Warren. Fees range depending on how many dancers on stage. Groups have a per dance fee of aprox $47. Costumes can vary from re-using one from a previous year, up to $150, with the average being $100. Competitions themselves are free to the public to attend.

What ages do dancers start competing?
We need dancers from age 4-18! If your dancer never stops dancing at home and wants more, more, more studio time begging for classes...that is a GREAT sign they would love the opportunities of our dance company.

We are very fortunate to have the opportunities come to our studio that we do. Our dancers perform, whether in the company or not, in multiple shows and fun events like a movie and opening for a national tour every season! The phone has not stopped ringing this season for really great things planned for next year as the word is OUT who we are and what we do. I am especially proud to serve our community with the arts and will continue my personal commitment to give back to others through dance! We are not in this for trophies (although we have a lot of great awards and judges special awards for our studio), we are dancers who compete within ourselves to achieve our personal best. We are artists above all else--just like in the professional world, where I have experience and continue to gain experience--dancers are artists first.  If that's what you are into--Welcome to Stage Left.

  • As part of a traditional comp team, train for months before ever hitting the stage, and when they do...lots of  tricks tend to score higher to win a trophy.

  • As part of the Stage Left Performance Company, we are artists first. All of our choreographers have professional dance experience...and our mission is to serve our community through dance and prepare our dancers for life and a professional career in dance, should they want that.

  • We are the only pre professional dance company in Trumbull and Mahoning County!!

  • The dancers perform nearly every month of the calendar year!! They receive an unmatched resume in this community to use on their college applications and future auditions.

  • A performance company GIVES pre-professional EXPERIENCE and the dancers are expected to be of the highest level of self respect and maturity to handle the pressures of performing, not just for a competition win...but for people counting on you to entertain at their event. Dancers learn how to be professional.

  • We also compete 4-5 times locally at dance competitions and have won Most Entertaining of the Day and Highest Scores of the day, year after year!

  • We are not perfect or better, we do not have critical spirits or COMPETITION toward one another, anger outbursts, arguments, or gossip on our teams or with our parents. If and when pockets of this behavior arises, it is dealt with respectfully and in love, with the hope that the dance relationships are more important than our needs to be right. We get past things quickly. Our girls can say they are sorry, our moms do not hold grudges, no one bad mouths anyone else when angered or afterward. This is strictly enforced, and unfortunately people have learned this the hard way at Stage Left. We are NOT a reality show.
